I was shopping online the last week and came across some great deals on wholesale jewelry on the internet. Then when I scrolled down the web page I read how California retailers have to adhere to proposition 65 warnings. They had to let their customers know that their jewelry contained chemicals and elements that have been known to cause cancer and birth defects.
The site warned to wash your hands after handling the jewelry and to keep it away from infants and small children. And by the way think twice before eating or sucking on the jewelry. You do not want to have something than might cause cancer in your mouth. Now I do not wear jewelry myself, I was looking for gifts.
Do I want to give away gifts that come with such a warning however? If I do give jewelry in California do I have to make sure the tag listing the warnings are included. Do I have to verbally warn people of the hazard? Do I have to tell them to wash their hands after opening and handling my gift?
This proposition applies to California retailers. So does this mean I can buy jewelry in Nevada and not worry about cancer causing agents? Or can I give Nevada jewelry as gifts and have no worry about warning anyone about my gift Well jewelry is jewelry. The industry has been making jewelry the same way for centuries. I doubt if California is the only state where jewelry can cause cancer.
Does anyone pay attention to these warnings? Do you pay attention to such warnings? If I gave you a wrist bracelet for Christmas with a California 65 tag on it would you not accept it, if you liked the bracelet? Chances are you would wear the bracelet.
How does jewelry cause cancer anyway? Does California have a unique testing system other states do not have? Or do the other states have the same information but they simply let their population take their chances on getting sick?
Lead has been part of the jewelry making process for a long time. Has anyone gotten sick with wearing lead around their neck or their finger or on their ears? Who can really say? But if it was not for California proposition 65 probably most people who buy and wear jewelry would not give it a second thought. But at least with this proposition people in California at least can decide for themselves if they want to wear jewelry that comes with a label suggesting you wash your hands after handling it.
If you are considering giving jewelry as a present you can make up your mind if you want to tell the person about the proposition 65 warnings. Or you can simply point out the tag if it has one. And I might not have been able to make this choice if I had not gone online looking for wholesale jewelry and reading about proposition 65.
I was searching for Wholesale Jewelry and Wholesale handbags on the world wide web recently and I came across a website that had a California proposition 65 warning. It stated the warning was in compliance with the proposition regulations.
